Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a professional undergraduate degree program that focuses on the principles and practices of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. The course combines traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern medical sciences to develop competent healthcare professionals capable of providing holistic and effective patient care.

The duration of the BAMS course is 5½ years, which includes 4½ years of academic study followed by a mandatory one-year rotating internship. The academic curriculum is divided into three professional phases, each spanning 1½ years:

• First Professional BAMS – Fundamental principles of Ayurveda, Anatomy, Physiology, Sanskrit, and related subjects.
• Second Professional BAMS – Pharmacology, Pathology, Toxicology, and Clinical Foundations.
• Third Professional BAMS – Clinical subjects including Medicine, Surgery, Panchakarma, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, and other specialized branches of Ayurveda.

The curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive theoretical knowledge, practical training, clinical exposure, and research orientation, preparing students to become skilled Ayurvedic practitioners and healthcare professionals.

BAMS Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the BAMS program must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

• Must have passed Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) as compulsory subjects.
• Must have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination (as per applicable government and regulatory norms).
• Must have qualified the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) conducted by the competent authority.
• Must have completed 17 years of age on or before the prescribed date of admission.
• Admission shall be granted strictly in accordance with the rules and regulations prescribed by the competent admission authority, Government of Maharashtra, and the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).
